The story of the coming Messiah, who was to save his people, began in Genesis 3:15. Adam and Eve had sinned in the Garden of Eden by eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil as God had forbidden. They were deceived by the serpent, Satan, and then cast out of the garden lest they eat of the tree of life and suffer in their sins for eternity. God cursed the serpent and proclaimed there would be enmity between the offspring of Satan and hers. Her child would crush Satan’s head and Satan would bruise his heel. This is the first prophecy of a coming redeemer who would defeat Satan. The Amplified translation gives us some good insights into who is who and what will be accomplished. “And I will put enmity (open hostility) Between you and the woman, And between your seed (offspring) and her Seed; He shall [fatally] bruise your head, And you shall [only] bruise His heel.”
Why start Advent here? There needed to be a compelling reason for God to send His Son to earth to live among mortals and died. John 3:16 gives us God’s motivation for this sacrificially act. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” The Christmas story is all about God’s great love for us. His great desire is to restore the relationship He had with mankind before sin entered the world. Romans 5:8 “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Even though we are filled with a sinful nature and prone to wander, God loves us and desires to restore man unto himself. Christ came to accomplish this. He was the perfect sacrifice to atone for our sins once for all time. Hebrews 10:10 “And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
So as we begin our journey through Advent, we need to remember it is because God loved us and desired a relationship with us that He sent Jesus. What a loving God to fix our problem of sin through His own sacrifice.

God’s attributes gave me a glimpse into the magnificence and depth of our God. I saw God’s accessibility, grace, omniscience, as a person, His incomprehensibility, invisibility, holiness, as a preserver, merciful, a promise-keeper, righteous, sovereign, perfect, omnipotent, provider, merciful again, glorious, Savior, faithful, just, wise, Father, guide, love and eternal.
No pagan god is like you, O Lord.
Thank you for joining me this Advent. May you be blessed as you endeavor to live for Jesus and grow more and more life Him each day.

What do these events say about God?
Jesus was the full expression of God’s LOVE for us
Matthew 2:19-23:
leads us in the way we should go. His Word teaches us how we are to live and think. Because God gives His children the Holy spirit, they recognize His voice and follow Him. We can trust God to lead us in the right way. Without God’s guidance, we would stumble and fall like people in darkness. Jesus is our guiding light so we can walk with God where He leads us with confidence and assurance.
May you follow His leading each day, knowing that God is faithful and trustworthy. He will guide you, just as He did Joseph and Mary.
“When they had gone
believe in Jesus, His Son. He gives us His Spirit, adopts us into His family and makes us His children. He speaks to us through His Word and we can speak to Him through prayer. God is always good, wise and loving. He loves and protects, cares, trains and disciplines His children. As a good Father, God gave us His Word, Sent His Son and then His Holy Spirit to help us live lives pleasing to Him. John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem,
Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
God is wise
on us. With all wisdom and understanding,
“There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Going up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.” Luke 2:36-38
How is God just? God’s justice is perfect. His decisions are always based on His righteous character. God cannot ignore sin because He is holy. It would be unjust to ignore wickedness, rebellion and sin. God is just and does not show favoritism. Every penalty will be fair and right. God does not treat His children as their sins deserve because Jesus suffered the full punishment for our sins. Because God is just and merciful, He will never punish His children for the sins for which Jesus paid on the cross. Anna could see this sacrifice in Jesus’ future that day and knew He was the key to the redemption of all God’s people.
How are you and I affected by God’s justice? We can count on God to always be Holy and intolerant of sin. We can trust that His justice is and has always been perfect as He is unchanging in character and does not show favorites. God is true to His Word and will do as He promised in Scripture. He will be victorious over Satan and Jesus will return again. We have proof of God’s justice. He dealt with our sin through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus. Now that our sin has been dealt with, it is over and God’s justice is done! Praise Him for His Justice and keep pointing others to Jesus. Live focused on things with eternal value that glorify God. Cling to God’s promises
in Scripture and pray for those that do not know Jesus as Savior. Do not judge others but leave justice to God. Trust in God’s justice and mercy it is and always will be perfect and always enough.
Jesus said, “ Then he said to them,
Luke 2:25-37 tells us what happened when they came to the temple to present Jesus to the Lord. As you read, consider our Faithful God. God knows and loves each of His own. He will do all He has promised: caring for us, making us strong, forgiving, making us new, protecting and purifying us. From the beginning God had a plan to restore the world, break the power of sin and reveal His plan to us. We know God is faithful because He sent His Son to the cross to keep His promise. He is faithful to himself and His Word. We can trust Him to keep all His promises. Here is what happened when they got to the temple:
Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
How do you see Faithful God work in your own life? Do you see His caring for you in life’s circumstances, building you up and making you stronger in faith through the trials you face each day, forgiving your sins, protecting you in body and soul and cleansing you when you confess your sins? Look today for the faithful hand of God in your life. You will be amazed and blessed!
