Justice, Eternal Hope and Righteousness

Today’s promise looks to the future in various layers. Isaiah talks about “my salvation is on the way” which points to Jesus. “For the skies will disappear like smoke.points towards the end times. Even though we do not know specifics we can look at God’s promises and know that they will come true.

Isaiah 51:4-6 “Listen to me, my people.
    Hear me, Israel,
for my law will be proclaimed,
    and my justice will become a light to the nations.
5 My mercy and justice are coming soon.
    My salvation is on the way.
    My strong arm will bring justice to the nations.
All distant lands will look to me
    and wait in hope for my powerful arm.
6 Look up to the skies above,
    and gaze down on the earth below.
For the skies will disappear like smoke,
    and the earth will wear out like a piece of clothing.
The people of the earth will die like flies,
    but my salvation lasts forever.
    My righteous rule will never end!

Promises: God promises to provide justice, salvation and unfailing righteousness through Christ Jesus and it will be for eternity.

Isaiah’s imagery is captivating as he describes what God will do. There is no doubt in his mind that God is capable and will fulfill His promises to the nation Israel and all future believers through his mighty arm of righteousness, Jesus Christ. In God’s time, He see this occurring speedily, and that we should always look forward with eternal hope. It is the hope we have in Christ that allows us to live each day looking forward to God’s promised justice, salvation and righteousness. A reason for our impatience is we desire to see things completed quickly. God’s ways are not our ways we are reminded in scripture. Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.” His timing is not ours either. 2 Peter 3:8 “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” While waiting for the Lord’s perfect timing, we need to wait patiently. Romans 8:24-25 “For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.“

What we know from these verses: God rules justly, God provides salvation through faith in Jesus, Jesus will bring justice to all nations, things of earth are temporal but things of God are eternal.

Lenten Reflections: Which of these prophetic promises are you looking forward to most? Where are you struggling with the difference between God’s timing and your own?

I am encouraged by these ancient verses from Isaiah. We know that God will provide and see us through to a time where His justice reigns and his unfailing righteousness is available to all in Jesus. Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can be assured of eternal salvation and a time of righteous justice for all.

The 4th Sunday of Lent 2025, I can come

These past Sunday’s I have been highlighting things we have in our lives because of Christ’s work on the cross. Salvation, Christ’s Righteousness, a Heavenly Home and today let’s look at approachability. Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I have the ability to approach God.

The idea of approaching Holy God is filled with fear and trembling, and rightly so. Sinful man is unworthy to approach God and even Moses only saw God’s shadow as He passed by. (Exodus 33:22) As we saw in the Garden of Eden, it was Adam and Eve’s sin against God that got them barred from the garden where they had communed with God. (Genesis 3:22-24) Jesus came and died so that our relationship with God could be restored and our sins forgiven. Jesus made us clean so that we can now approach God in faith. Ephesians 3:12 “ In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.’ Our confidence comes from our relationship with Jesus. Hebrews 4:16 explains the benefits of coming to God, “ Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

The benefits of approaching God are listed in Hebrews 4:16. Coming before God in prayer, we can find freedom, confidence for living, mercy, grace and help in our time of need. What a blessing that now we can approach God and commune with Him.

This week take advantage of this opportunity and spend time with God. Thank Him for his many benefits and lay your needs before Him. He will listen and answer.

The Way to Life

Today’s promise is an essential one as it contrasts a life without Christ to one with Christ.

1 John 5:11-12  “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

We live in an age of tolerance and it is not thought to be polite, proper or loving to say there is only one way to God. Many would espouse the idea that there are many pathways to God. God’s Word does not allow for tolerance of other ways or the idea of multiple ways to reach a relationship with God. God specially says that Jesus is the only way to Him and that is through faith in Jesus. Knowing Jesus is the only way to have a relationship with God, have your sins forgiven, to be able to go to heaven and to have an eternal life with God. It is imperative that we stand firm on this basic truth for true salvation demands it.

What we know from these verses: Faith in Jesus results in eternal life and a relationship with God, not believing in Jesus brings death, Jesus is God’s Son who He sent to save us and redeem us from sin.

Lenten Reflections: Do you know Jesus and believe He is the way to God? Are you tolerating talk of many pathways to God or are you taking a stand on God’s Word?

As we can see from our verses, not accepting Jesus as the way to God and embracing faith in Him leads to death. Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Without the work of Jesus we are lost in our sin and definitely not headed for eternal life with Him. Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can know God, be forgiven and will be able to spend eternity with Him. Be sure you know Him.

The Book of Life

Earlier I wrote about the promise in Joshua 1:9 and while I was reviewing the passage I was drawn to the promises of Joshua 1:8. They are both dynamic promises that make a difference in our daily lives.

Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Promise: God promises a way of life that leads to prosperity and success if we follow His Word.

This is not some type of prosperity gospel but a basic truth from God’s Word. God promises if we follow His word by keeping His commandments in our hearts and minds, meditating on His word, and by doing what His word tell us, we will find fulfillment, happiness, and success in living. This has nothing to do with money or possessions but God is promising those things in life that make life worth living. We will have purpose in Him. We will have an abiding faith in Jesus. We will have the sealing of the Holy Spirit on and in our lives. We will have Christ’s righteousness. We will have eternal life and spend eternity with Him. Those are things only God can give and cannot be purchased or earned. They are promised gifts from God.

What I can know from this verse: God’s Word is meant to be studied, internalized and meditated upon, God’s Word gives us guideline for living His way, God’s Word shows the way to good living and success.

Lenten Reflections: How am I doing on studying God’s Word? Is it daily, regularly, of haphazardly? Do I read God’s Word with the intention of apply it to my life?

So are you reading and studying your Bible? It is impossible to know what God desires or even who He is unless we delve into His word. God reveals himself in the Bible and we see Jesus clearly from His recorded time on earth. Don’t let anything keep you from reading and studying God’s Word. Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can read and learn of God and His Son from the pages of His written Word. It is His love letter to me.

Power that Overcomes!

Today’s promise describes to us the power of faith in our lives and its effect on the world around us.

1 John 5:3-5 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

Promise: God promises that faith in Jesus will overcome the world and that obedience to His Word shows my love for Him.

This promise is HUGE in God’s Word. Our faith in Jesus and His saving work on the cross holds the key to victory for us over sin that is present in our own lives and throughout the world. In these days where sin seems to be rampant and we see disrespect directed at those who profess faith, knowledge that our God is sovereign gives us true hope! We can be assured that God does reign and someday the words of Philippians 2:10-11 will be true. “so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” He will overcome the world and will reign victorious.

What we know from these verses: my obedience to God’s Word demonstrates my love for Him, keeping God’s Word is not a burden for the believer, faith in Jesus gives power to live a victorious life, faith in Jesus is more powerful than the pull of sin, salvation from sin comes only through faith in Jesus.

Lenten Reflections: Am I showing God that I love Him by keeping His Word? As I studying God’s Word to know what it is He desires of me?

We think about God loving us and showing us how much He cares for us, but do we think about our love back to Him? This verse tell us that obedience is God’s love language. For those who love Him, He will see that they are victorious. Faith in Jesus is the key as it causes us to want to please and show our love for God. Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can know my faith in Jesus has power and I will be victorious in Him.

Need Courage? Always Available!

This verse from Joshua is one of my favorites. It is a promise that always brings me comfort and encouragement. Joshua 1:9 is one of the first verses I memorized and it has given me courage and assurance in many difficult situations.

“ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Promise: God promises to be with me wherever I go and his presence will dispel fear and discouragement.

God knows that I get fearful and discouraged as I face the trials of living each day. The people and circumstances that surround me often can lead to discouragement, depression, fatigue and despair. Without God to give me encouragement, direction and courage, I can easily become overwhelmed. God faithfully reminds me that He is with me and His Spirit indwells me. He gives me the power to preserve and serve Him.

What I can know from this verse: God is greater than anyone that I might fear, God’s presence dispels fear, God is omnipresent, God is sovereign, God does not want me to live fearfully.

Lenten Reflections: Where am I letting the fears of my life overwhelm me? Where do I need to turn to Him and trust in His presence?

Seek today to practice God’s presence. Send up arrow prayers when in need. Ask God to be present with you during your day. Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can have God with me at all times and do not have to live in fear! Praise God, Thank you Jesus!

Such Comfort and Assurance – Homeward Bound!

My post from Sunday, the 3rd Sunday of Lent, was about our eternal home. This is something promised to us by Christ. Today’s scripture adds details that are significant to each of us as we look forward to our home in heaven with Christ. Revelation 21:3-4.

 “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place  of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Promises: God promises that one day we will live with Him and those things that have caused us tears like pain and death will no longer exist.

I can’t imagine living a world where pain and sorrow do not exist. There would be no more death, accidents, disease, anger, hatred, wars, greed, envy, evil, or selfish ambition. Wow! That will certainly be a place to look forward to, however, that is not the most important feature of this new home. It will be a place where we live in constant communion with God. We get a glimpse of this when we read the Genesis account of the Garden of Eden. There Adam and Eve walked with God, talked and lived in perfect harmony with Him. Our finite minds cannot even grasp a world without evil, but God promises it will come in His time. I hope that knowing a bit about our eternal home will bring a smile to your lips and hope to your heart. Be encouraged today as you ponder what God had in store for our future with Him.

What we know from these verses: God desires that I be with Him and He with me, God has a future planned where I will be with Him eternally, God knows the things in my life that cause me tears and suffering, sin causes pain in our lives and our home with Him will be a ‘sin free’ enviornment!

Lenten Reflections: What excites you the most about your future home in heaven? How can you know for sure you are going there? (Faith in Jesus is required- John 3:16, 1 John 1:9, John 11:25.)

We need to trust God for the future and walk believing in His Word. God keeps His promises and will deliver us to our heavenly home. Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can be assured of a heavenly home that will be a joyous place with Him!

Who Told You?

Who told you about Jesus and the salvation He offered? Was it your parents, grandparents, a friend or neighbor? Or maybe you were reading God’s Word and knew in your heart that what God said was true and believed. Scripture tells us that believing comes from hearing Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.’ Our promise today comes from Genesis 12:3b.

…”and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Promise: All believers are blessed by Abraham’s faith that led to Christ.

Paul gives us additional information about the blessing to Abraham in Galatians 3:7-9. “Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.” Abraham was considered by God to be a man of faith as he answered God’s call and followed him to a new land. God considered Abraham’s faith and counted it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:6 “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” Just as Abraham received righteousness through his faith in God so we too receive our righteousness though faith in Christ.

Knowing that we have to hear or see God’s truth to bring us to faith in Jesus, who do you have to thank for telling you about Jesus? Christianity is just one generation away from extinction as you cannot get to heaven on someone else’s faith. You need your own faith in Christ. Abraham was faithful to pass on his legacy of faith to his sons and daughters. Who do you need to tell about Jesus today so that the gospel message can live on?

What do we know from this verse: God has a plan of salvation for all believers, God intends for us to pass it on to the next generation until Christ returns, Abraham’s faith had an effect on all believers.

Lenten Reflections: What is my legacy of faith? Whom have I told? Who do I need to tell about Jesus?

Think about God’s precious blessing though Christ. Pray for those who brought you to faith and for those who do not yet know Him.

Third Sunday of Lent 2025, I have a Home!

Each Sunday during Lent I have been highlighting something we have because of Christ’s work on the cross and resurrection. Salvation and Christ’s Righteousness is ours as well as the promise of an eternal home with Christ.

Scripture tells us that death is not the end for us as God has a home for us in heaven. 2 Corinthians 5:1 “For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.’

Jesus said words to comfort his disciples as his time on earth neared the end. These are familiar words giving us hope for a home in heaven with Jesus and Jesus’ promised return. Our home in heaven is not random or thrown together at the last minute but planned and prepared for us by God. John 14:1-4 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” We know the way because we believe in Jesus. Remember his familiar words in John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The way is through faith in Jesus!

Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can be assured of my home in heaven through faith in Jesus.

Seek Jesus’ Peace, Ask and He will Deliver!

Jesus gave us a very precious promise in John 14:27. It is only one verse but packs complete hope and peace in a world filled with turmoil. Jesus knew the disciples would need these promises in the days ahead and so do we!

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.“

Promise: Jesus promises His peace that will keep us from worry and fear.

On those beauty pageant shows they would always ask the candidate what they wanted. So many said ‘world peace.’ Peace is always desired by people but it is something no amount of money can buy. No person can purchase it for you or give it to you. Only Jesus could promise His peace that transcends this world and is heavenly in nature. His peace will keep us from being troubled or fearful. Since we are often troubled or fearful, how do we access this peace? Jesus said he gives it to us. That would suggest that we need to ask Him for it when we are in need. Knowing that His peace is available for the asking, we need to prepare our hearts and minds to receive it. Being anxious or occupied with the world will keep us from getting His peace 100%. Focus, mindset and and open attitude are essential to receiving His blessing of peace.

What we know from this verse: Jesus promises me peace, Jesus gives peace, His peace brings calmness of spirit that dispels worry and fear.

Lenten Reflections: Are you pushing peace away by craving the world? Do you seek peace and ask God for it?

When I am frazzled and wanting some peace, I need to stop and think about Jesus, ask Him to intervene and give me His peace. He will. Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can have peace in the midst of the storms of life. Thank you Jesus!
