God is our Deliverer in multiple ways!

The idea that God is our deliverer is a wonderful one that is seen over and over again in scripture. We read that God delivered Paul from the shipwreck, a poisonous snake’s bite, the beatings, and much more. We read that God delivered David in battles and from King Saul who pursued him relentlessly with the intent to kill him for 14 years. We saw that God delivered Daniel from the jaws of the lion and Jonah from the belly of a big fish. But we also see that God did not deliver Jacob from the consequences of his sins of lying, the Jews from exile in Babylon and the destruction of the temple. The most important delivery we have in scripture is our delivery from the power and consequences of God’s wrath over our sin. Thank you Jesus for you sacrifice that brings us by faith to eternal deliverance and hope. I love Colossians 1:12-14 “ giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

We know that God can deliver us from tough situations but we should not assume upon His grace and think every situation will end with deliverance. However, we can be encouraged by the heart attitude of those who show us God’s deliverance in their lives. David experienced God’s deliverance and protection over and over as he fled from Saul. Psalm 18:1-2 “I love you, O Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
I am also encouraged by the promise in Psalm 34: 4, 7 ” I sought the Lord, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.”
David found that God’s deliverance could be freedom from worry and fear! God promises an angel will deliver us from those fears! I love that promise and can claim it as my own. God is bigger than and situation and can deliver us from the fears we feel. He is fearless and so are we in Him!

Paul writes in Romans about the deliverer from Zion who would take away their sins. He wanted the Jews, and us too, to know that the deliverer, Jesus, the Messiah, had come and that faith in Jesus frees us from the power of sin over our lives. Romans 11:26-27 “ And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion,
he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”; 27 “and this will be my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.”

When Paul wrote to Timothy, he affirmed God’s power to deliver that is one we can all claim as believers. We belong to Him and no matter what happens in our lives, we belong to Him eternally. We are secure in Him. 2 Timothy 4:18 “Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.“

Because Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I can know my deliverer and trust in Him always. I pray that you have that assurance and know Jesus as your Savior and Deliverer.
