You are… loved by God. Feel the Love today!

Jeremiah-31-3Do you feel loved by God today?  Jeremiah 31:3 reminds us that God was in the habit of reminding the children of Israel that they were loved by him.  It was not with just any love but an everlasting love based on His mercy and kindness.  Based on His promises to Abraham and all of his descendants in faith.  Based on God’s faithful character!    Since God does not lie (Hebrews 6:18) and God does not change (Hebrews 13:8), we can rely upon His love and faithfulness.  He keeps His promises forever.  God made us and loves us now and forever.

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying:

“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.  Jeremiah 31:3

How does that help us today?  God’s eternal love and care for me gives me an anchor to hold onto in the storms of life.  I can trust His Word and know that He will always be with me and has good planned for my life.  He wants me to trust Him and let Him develop and shape my character to be more and more like Jesus.

Know who you are today.  You are deeply loved  by God, made exactly as He wanted you and created to give Him glory and honor.  Make it a do it for God day because You are loved by Him!

Jer 31 3Prayer:  Lord, I know you love me and created me with kindness.  Guide me today and show me ways to express your love toward others.  Thank you for the assurance that your love is unfailing and forever.  I do not ever need to doubt Your love for me.  I know you deeply love me.  Amen.

Loved by God,

Linda

I can’t believe it is June already!!

Has your life been swirling around you and activities coming so fast and furious you can’t seem to keep track?  Life has a tendency to turn us around and around and cause us to lose our focus on what is important.  Whether or not it is furious activity or the doldrums, focus on the things of God tend to be put on the back burner.  I am hoping that my summer blogs will help you to regain your focus and see the purposes that God has intended for you from the beginning.  This year I have been involved in several studies focused on the Armour of God, by Priscilla Shirer, and prayer, Fervent.  I would recommend both.  Priscilla included a list of what we have in and through Christ as our inheritance and our identity.  This summer, I invite you to come along with me as I blog about those things we can claim as our inheritance and those things that form our true identity in Christ.  It will be an exciting and growing adventure for me and I hope for you as well.

James 1:5 from the Amplified Bible speaks of our inheritance, wisdom from God.

If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him.

God in His goodness will share His knowledge and wisdom with us if we will but ask.  He will not blame us or put us down for not knowing the answer or the way.  Unlike earthly friends and family, He is always good.  I am reminded of  Nahum 1:7 “The LORD is good a refuge in times of trouble, He cares for those who trust in Him.”  God is good; it is an integral part of His character.  We can trust Him and know that He will not give us bad advice or lead us in the wrong way.  I don’t know about you, but it comforts me to know that God is willing to share His knowledge with me and guide me.  How do I get that knowledge?  That requires looking into God’s Word, praising and praying.  If we are diligent and patient, God will reveal His perfect will to us.  As my friend Iris always reminds me, ‘We need to wait upon the Lord for His answer’.  It is the waiting that causes me to stress.  We don’t want to be like Abraham and Sarah and run ahead of God’s perfect plan- we need to wait and follow His direction.   How much time do you spend seeking God’s wisdom and guidance in prayer?  I’m definitely asking myself that too. God tells us “We do not have because we do not ask.  We do not receive because we ask with wrong motives.” James 4:2b-3  Prayer- honest, sincere, heartfelt is required.

One other thought, the Lord promises to give us wisdom generously.  We won’t get just a little bit of wisdom but enough to do what God has for us to do.

Prayer:  Thank you Lord for your great wisdom, generosity and willingness to share with me your perfect answers when I ask. Thank you that I can always trust you to give me exactly the amount of wisdom I require. Give me the faith to trust in You and to wait patiently for Your answer.   Amen

Desiring to wait for God’s leading, He will give me wisdom as it is part of my great inheritance in Christ.

National Day of Prayer- Be there, Be with us!

The National Day of Prayer is today May 4th, the first Thursday in May.  In 1952 the Congress passed a law establishing an official date for a day Americans are called to pray and meditate.  Often in our history presidents have asked the nation to pray, meditate or fast but it did not become officially set aside as a specific day until 1952.  It was challenged in court in 2011 but upheld as constitutional.

The Bible has a lot to say about prayer and Jesus modeled how to pray in his prayer to the Lord.  You can find the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. Jesus was teaching the disciples how to pray so they would not be like the hypocrites that made loud noises to the Lord but did it all for show.  Jesus would often pull away from the disciples, the crowds and pressures of his daily life and seek solace, comfort and renewal from His heavenly Father in prayer.  We are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 “pray continually”.  James 5:13-18 tells us to  pray for others, pray for the sick and pray if you are in trouble.   We are told to PRAY.  When our prayers are answered we are told to rejoice and praise God. What situation has brought you to your knees before Almighty God this year?  Was it a death, natural disaster, troubling circumstances, problems with addictions or money problems?  For what answered prayer have you thanked God?  We are told in the next verse of 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”   Prayer and thanksgiving are to go hand in hand.

Today,  let us give thanks and offer prayers for our great nation.  Our problems are many but so are our blessings.  Turn to God and acknowledge Him.  I am reminded of Proverbs 3:5-6 as we celebrate this day of prayer together.   “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”     Let us thank God for our many blessings as a nation and then turn to Him with petitions and prayers asking forgiveness for our sins and looking to Him to lead our way.

God is FAITHFUL!!

My declaration of God’s faithfulness comes after a harrowing move with many ups and downs.  As I look back at the boxes, the selling and gifting of many of my worldly possessions the gentlemen and ladies who came to move me would say-she got rid of things, really?  It was a time of reflection and sadness over ‘things’ that we feel mean so much to us.  However, the reality is- we can not take them with us into the next life and lightening  the load of possessions- really helps.  I feel less burdened- freed from the worry or stress those things caused.  In the midst of all this turmoil, God stood beside me providing exactly what I needed when I needed it in miraculous ways.  Today my internet was connected and I could get back to my teaching and writing- I wanted to praise God and extol Him for His goodness and mercy.  On Mount Sinai Moses wanted to see God.  “And the LORD said, ‘I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD , in your presence.  I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.'”   I feel blessed and love by my merciful God.  I have seen His goodness and felt His compassion and mercy.  Thank you Jesus.

On the Road with Jesus, Sunday evening

One of my favorite post-resurrection appearances is the encounter of the two on the Road to Emmaus.  Overcome with grief over Jesus’ death and disbelief over what the women said about seeing Him alive,  these two followers of Christ were walking along the Emmaus Road discussing all these things.  Jesus joined them on their journey without disclosing his identity.  As they walked they marveled at his ignorance over all the events that had just occurred in Jerusalem and their hope that Jesus was the one the prophets had proclaimed.

road25 He said to them, “How unwise and slow you are to believe in your hearts all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Didn’t the Messiah have to suffer these things and enter into His glory?” 27 Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted for them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.  Luke 24:25-27  (HCSB)

Wouldn’t you have loved to have been there and listened to Jesus explain all about Himself?  A little later in the story when they were sitting down to eat, Jesus gave thanks, broke the bread and began to give it to them.  Their eyes were opened  and they recognized Jesus.  He then disappeared from their presence.  Even though it was late they quickly returned to Jerusalem to tell the disciples about their encounter with the risen Lord Jesus.

Jesus came to these two when they were in grief, despair and confusion and cleared up their thinking, encouraged and enlivened them.  Can you remember a time when Jesus came to you in prayer or through the actions or words of another believer to give you hope and encouragement?  Jesus promises that He will be with us wherever we go.  Just like these two, we need to look and recognize His presence with us and the hope that He brings.

blessedI pray that my Lenten Blogs have brought you hope and encouragement these past 6 weeks.  I have been mightily blessed by being with you and in the scriptures each day.  I have a very busy time coming up in my life and would ask you to pray for me that I would see Jesus’ encouragements and rely on His strength each day.  It has been a wonderful Lenten season together.  I will continue with more post-resurrection appearance leading to Pentecost.  Then I will return to my weekly or biweekly writing schedule.

Blessings to you,

Linda

Sunday, Jesus has Risen!!

Happy Easter to you this Resurrection Sunday morning!  Scripture tells us that the women went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body and encountered 2 angels.  The angels He_Is_Risen_1said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here; he has risen!  Remember how he told you, while was still with you in Galilee.  The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.” Then they remembered his words.” Luke 24:5b-8    The women then went to tell the disciples and encountered Jesus himself in the garden.  Jesus said to her, “Mary” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” John 20:16  Then they ran to tell the disciples filled with great joy!

I pray that you will encounter the Risen Lord Jesus this Resurrection Sunday and experience great JOY in worshiping Him!   Here is a description of our future because of what Jesus did for us at the cross and through His resurrection. Praise you Jesus!

Isaiah 61 1010 I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!
For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation
and draped me in a robe of righteousness.
I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding
or a bride with her jewels.
11 The Sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the world.
    Everyone will praise him!
His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring,
with plants springing up everywhere.  Isaiah 61:10-11

Have a Blessed Easter!

Saturday, where’s Jesus?

Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb of his friend Joseph of Arimathea.  Scripture gives us some hints as to what Jesus was doing between the time of his burial and resurrection.  There is a lot of debate by scholars on the subject, but it is agreed that Jesus  was in Hades preaching and teaching.  Ephesians 4:8-10 speaks of Jesus descending and leading captives as he ascended into heaven.  1 Peter 3:18-20 speaks of Jesus preaching to spirits in prison.

Why is scripture basically silent on this period of time?  Probably because it is of little importance to us as believers.  The gospel essence is the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior.  His power over death is so miraculous and life giving that our focus needs to be on our redemption and His victory.  We also know that Jesus was always about His Father’s business.  “Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I , too, am working.”  John 5:17 God always has a purpose and a plan, and Jesus was always doing the Father’s work.  So on this silent day we can ask ourselves, Am I doing what God wants me to do?  Am I using the time God has given me to pray, study, witness and do good things for others?  Quietly think about God today as you prepare for Resurrection Sunday.   Know for sure the truth of Isaiah’s ancient words:    How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”   Isaiah 52:7

jesus comingPrayer:  Father God, as I await the celebration on Easter Sunday of Jesus’ triumph over death and sin, cause me to ponder His sacrifice anew and have a better grasp on the freedom Jesus provided.  I desire to do your will in my life. Guide me today to those who need a kind word or an encouragement of faith.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blessings as we await His resurrection,

Linda

Friday, where’s Jesus?

After His arrest Thursday night, Jesus endured 4 trials.  He went before the religious leaders, the Sanhedrin, then Pilate who sent him to Herod, the Jewish head of state, then back to Pilate.  The Jews wanted Jesus killed but they did not have the authority to execute Him.  They demanded that Pilate, the Roman authority in Palestine, crucify Him.  Pilate had Jesus flogged and beaten even though Pilate knew Jesus to be innocent.  He had hoped this cruel treatment would pacify the Jews.  However, the crowds pressed him and requested the release of the criminal Barabbas instead of Jesus since it was the custom to release one convicted person as a token of goodwill at the Jewish Passover.  The crowds demanded that Jesus be crucified and Pilate agreed to appease the angry and vocal Jewish crowds.   Jesus was then made to carry His own cross to the place of execution, Golgotha.  Along the way Jesus stumbled and Simon of Cyrene was conscripted to carry the cross.  Jesus was then nailed to a cross and hung to die.  His clothes were stripped from Him and as He hung naked on the cross, soldiers gambled for his clothing at the foot of the cross.

I can not imagine the pain, anguish, humiliation and shame Jesus endured on my behalf. As He took all the sins of the world, yours and mine, upon His pure and innocent body, the sin took him to a place he had never been before.  The sin separated him from God, His holy Father.  He did this so that His sacrifice could atone for our sins.  1 Peter 2:24 explains what Jesus accomplished for me.

1peter224 He personally carried our sins
in his body on the cross
so that we can be dead to sin
and live for what is right.
By his wounds
    you are healed.  (NLT)

I never realized how sweet Jesus’ final words from the cross were until recently.  “‘It is finished.’ With that, he lowered his head and gave up his spirit.”  John 19:30   He declared with His final breath that the work of redemption was complete,  and He had accomplished what the Father had sent Him to do- pay the penalty for the sins of all who would believe for all eternity with His blood.  Having accomplished His work, He gave up His spirit.  His life was not taken from Him but He gave it up voluntarily at the time of His choosing.  Only God can choose the time of His death.  When we speak of someone dying, we say the person has life take from them.  We don’t get to chose the hour or minute of our last breath but Jesus chose when and where He was to die for you and me.  I am staggered by His love and commitment to me that He would endure such punishment and isolation from God on my behalf.  As you ponder the cross today, think of all Jesus gave up and all He did on your behalf.

finished-fullPrayer:  Father, the enormity of Jesus’ sacrifice and your love in sending Him to die for my sin is incomprehensible.  ‘Your ways and not my ways’ Isaiah reminds us.  I am so thankful for your plan of redemption  and stand humbly before you because of Jesus, my Savior.  Praising you in Jesus name, Amen.                (Isaiah 55:8)

Thankful for Jesus,

Linda

Thursday, where is Jesus?

As Jesus’ time on earth draws to a close, His Thursday was filled with love, encouragement, heartbreak and pain.  As Jesus celebrated the Passover supper with His disciples in the Upper Room,  Judas was dismissed as he had already decided in his heart to betray Jesus.  Then Jesus spent precious hours teaching, reassuring and praying for His disciples.  Later they went to the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed and gained strength from the Father.  The soldiers came into the garden to arrest Jesus and he was betrayed by Judas. They led him away to be tried in numerous trials both civil and religious.  He was beaten, flogged, insulted and denied by Peter.

JesusPraysForYou_720x250During all this time, Jesus was focused on doing the will of the Father and completing His mission on earth- redemption of mankind.  I am touched when I consider His prayer in the Upper Room as recorded in John 17: 20-23.

20-23 I’m praying not only for them
But also for those who will believe in me
Because of them and their witness about me.
The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind
Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
So they might be one heart and mind with us.
Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me.
The same glory you gave me, I gave them,
So they’ll be as unified and together as we are—
I in them and you in me.
Then they’ll be mature in this oneness,
And give the godless world evidence
That you’ve sent me and loved them
In the same way you’ve loved me.  (MSG)

I was amazed that Jesus took time to pray for His mission, His disciples and All future believers that night in the Upper Room.  He wanted for all future believers to be unified in faith so we can tell others that Jesus is real and was sent by the Father.  He says that the unity of our faith and oneness with Christ will give evidence to the unbelieving world that God loves us and truly sent His Son to redeem us.  The unity was so important to our Lord and Savior that He interceded for us.  Jesus wants us to be one in Spirit, united, telling others about Him.

What difference does that make that Jesus spend time on the last night before his crucifixion praying for you,?  When you are with other believers do you strive for the unity Christ desired or are you seeking to divide and cause unrest in matters of faith with your brothers and sisters in Christ?  Are you about the sharing of your faith with others by showing kindness, love and belief in Jesus?  Today, think of Jesus and what He desires for all believers.  Strive to walk in unity.  He promises it will show the world that we believe in Him and God’s love.

onePrayer:  Father, I am humbled and amazed that Jesus prayed for me on his last night on earth.  He loved me so much and wanted me to be one in faith and unified in spirit with all believers.  Help me to live today with an abiding faith in You so that the people I meet will know that I love You and that You love me. Empower me to show your love to others so that you may be glorified in all I say and do. Amen.

Marveling at Jesus and His great love for me,

Linda

Wednesday, where’s Jesus?

It would seem that the gospel’s are silent on the whereabouts of Jesus on this day of Holy Week.  Perhaps he remained in Bethany with Mary, Martha and Lazarus, taking a needed day of rest.  Tomorrow will be a trying day with the Last Supper, Gethsemane, His arrest, beating and trials by night leading to crucifixion on Friday.  Jesus knew what was coming and how his human body would need strength for tomorrow so He rested.  Even though He was God, He felt all the pain and fatigue of a man when He was within His earthly body.  So He needed rest today.

What do you need today? Here are a couple of scriptures for you to mediate on to encourage and strengthen you.  David knew his need for the Lord and relied upon Him each day.  psalm 137

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
    you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and your right hand delivers me.
The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.  Psalm 138:7-8a

Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord,moxie
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.  Psalm 37:3-6

Jesus knew the Psalms of King David and perhaps He drew strength and comfort from these words too.  Let them bring you peace and rest today.

trustPrayer:  Lord God Almighty, You and You alone know what my future holds.  You promise in your word that you know the plans you have for me, plans for my good.  Strengthen me today and cause me to commit my way more fully to you that I may delight in you.  Hold me with your faithfulness and show me your hope and love.  Thank you for your restoration as it will be exactly what I need for today.  Amen.

Looking to Jesus, the faithful one,

Linda

P.S.  Moxie is defined as -courage and aggressiveness, nerve. skill and know-how.  All of that we find in the Lord.
