Because I believe Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I am a saint. This may seem like a very bold claim but Paul used it various times to address the Christians he was writing to in his letters. Philippians 1:1
“Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,
To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:”
Also in Romans 1:7 Paul calls it a calling,
“To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
The term ‘saints’ is not one of personal purity but of being set apart by Jesus. Believers are filled with the Holy Spirit and are declared righteous by the work of Jesus on the cross. The label of saint is one that denotes belonging to Christ and that the ‘sainthood’ was bestowed in and through faith in Jesus.
So what about me and you? Do you consider yourself a ‘saint’? Are you a believer who is willing to step out and be identified with Jesus. Are you desiring to grow in faith and love for God and others? If you are, you can consider yourself a ‘saint’- one who is called to that position by Jesus and stands in that position by grace alone because of faith alone in Jesus. Praise Him for your sainthood today!
From one called to be a ‘saint’ for Jesus,
