Because I believe Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, I am indwelt by the Holy Spirit. That is a very powerful fact that permeates the life of every believer. Paul was speaking to the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 3:16, who were arguing with one another. He says, “ Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” Because we have God’s Holy Spirit inside of us, guiding and directing our hearts, we are to be loving and united in faith and purpose. Romans 5:1-5 explains this in more detail. “ Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Paul makes it clear that we are made right with God through Jesus and that He loved us so much He gave us His Spirit to indwell us. His Holy Spirit works from within- guiding, encouraging and giving us the power to live for Him each day.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for your work on the cross and your victory over death that makes it possible through faith for me to have your Spirit dwelling in my heart. Without Your Holy Spirit I would be powerless to live for You. Thank you Jesus. Amen.
Eternally grateful that I am filled with His Spirit,
Linda
Because I believe Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead
As we center our thinking on Christ these next 40 days. I found this quote by Pope Francis and thought it was so insightful as to
Lent begins on Wednesday. If we were in New Orleans we would be celebrating during the Mardi Gras season awaiting tomorrow better known as ‘Fat Tuesday’. This is the biggest and last day of the festival. Why celebrate? Beginning in Medieval times people would celebrate by eating rich foods and drinking before the season of Lent that brought penance and fasting. Today I hear people say, “This is my last_____ for 6 weeks”. This could be chocolate, french fries, alcohol or anything else one feels would be a sacrifice to eliminate from their diet for the 6 weeks leading up to Easter. All of the ‘sacrifice’ points to the ultimate sacrifice that Christ made by dying on the cross for our sins.
It has been a month since I posted my blogs to begin our New Year with HOPE. I pray you had a good beginning to 2018. I had the privilege to travel to Thailand and Cambodia. It was an amazing trip and God was faithful to teach me as I traveled. I want to share a few reflections before we begin our Lenten journey on February 14th.
Cling to these verses as you walk forward this year. Claim their truths. What God promises, He delivers. God is ever faithful.
James 1:2-5 ”
Rejoicing in suffering takes purposeful thinking and faith,
As you begin this New Year, why not write this verse out and have it where you can see it each day? Let the truth of God’s promised provision sink into your heart. When God says, “I will”, He means it because God is truth (1 John 5:6) and does not lie. (Hebrews 6:18) What God says you can count on today and all the days this year. He won’t change His mind as God is immutable, unchanging. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
So be encouraged today to keep on keeping on with doing good. God knows our struggles and desires that we have a persistent attitude towards life and serving others. Today live each moment looking for who God wants you to bless by being the very presence of God to them. Reflect Jesus and do good for Him with a renewed attitude.
What wonderful promises to encourage and keep us going when things get hard! Have you ever thought about God rejoicing and singing over you? What have you done for Him that He would be rejoicing about? God specifically tells us to proclaim the gospel, good news, about Jesus so others can know His love and redemption. He calls us to serve and love others in His name-having the motivating factor in that love coming from God. In John 14:23 “Jesus answered him,
What about calming you with His love? Has that ever happened to you? I like to think of this as calming my spirit as I struggle with a difficult situation, bringing peace in the midst of chaos, bringing hope when I’m discouraged. The Holy Spirit can touch us personally as He dwells within or He may send someone else with a word of encouragement or a kind deed. God promises in this verse that Jesus is with us and that He will save us. Jesus came to save- let Him save you. Accepting His love and redemption into our lives is a one time event but then He continues to live within us and save us to a greater extent with each day. The fancy word for this is sanctification, the growing and developing in Christ. Let Him work within you each day and mold and shape you into who He wants you to be.
